How do I get to files on the other computer on our home network?
- If you want to check on the names go to START - SETTINGS - CONTROL PANEL - NETWORK - IDENTIFICATION
- Each computer has a name.
- computer #1 (Al's) is named ODIN
- computer #2 (Kathy's) is named THOR
- The workgroup name is the SAME name on both computers
- On computer #1 the workgroup is named - VAHALLA
- On computer #2 the workgroup is named - VAHALLA
- START - SETTINGS - CONTROL PANEL - NETWORK - ACCESS CONTROL
- Set to share-level access control on BOTH computers
- START - SETTINGS - CONTROL PANEL - NETWORK - CONFIGURATION
- Set to file and printer sharing for Microsoft networks - Microsoft Family Logon
- Click FILE AND PRINT SHARING button
- Select I WANT TO BE ABLE TO GIVE OTHERS ACCESS TO MY FILES
- When you are finished with the file transfer you should go back and de select this option.
- Set up the drive you want to share from on both computers.
- Go to MY COMPUTER
- RIGHT CLICK (on closed C or D folder) - SHARING
- Select SHARED AS and keep name the file C or D
- Select ACCESS TYPE - FULL
- When done sharing files, undo sharing on both computers. Leaving the files "shared" opens a door to hackers from the internet.
