The icons don't tell you what the file extentions are.

1. Click MY DOCUMENTS - TOOLS - FOLDER OPTIONS
2. Click on tab VIEW
3. Check Display the full path in title bar
4. Click APPLY to all folders

Now ALL your folders should show the file extentions with the names.
For example: Address.doc Address.txt
