registerfiles

If the wrong program is opening your file (for example Windows Explorer opens all .gif files and you want Paint Shop Pro to open them) then you need to change how the .gif files are registered. Once changed, all the files with that extention will now open with the new program you have selected)

  1. Select FOLDER OPTIONS from the view menu in any window.
  2. Click FILE TYPES tab in the dialogue box.
  3. Find your file type in the REGISTERED FILE TYPES box.
  4. Highlight the file type.
  5. Click EDIT button - a new window will open.
  6. Find the ACTIONS window - highlight OPEN
  7. Click EDIT
  8. Click BROWSE - Select the program you want to open your file.
  9. Click OK

Now return to File Types Page and you can see that the file will now open with the program you selected. You will notice that you can also change the icon associated with that file type, plus other actions for the file.

If you only want the new program to open a particular file once and go back to the original...

  1. Select the file icon you wish to change.
  2. Shift/Right Click
  3. Select Open with
  4. choose the program you want to open the file
  5. DO NOT choose always use or it will always use the new program to open that file type same as above.
